Symposium 2012: Tomorrow's physics
On April 27th the annual symposium of Student Association Marie Curie of the Radboud University Nijmegen will take place. This year,
the subject is tomorrow's physics: new ideas in physics that are actively researched.
The chairman of this symposium will be:
Prof.dr. C.C.A.M. Gielen
Dean of the Radboud University Faculty of Science.
Read introduction
Physics is exciting. Every time when we think that we understand the physical
world, new surprises show up. One example is the recent evidence that the
physical world as we know it, makes up less than 10% of all matter in the
universe and that the rest is dark matter and dark energy which has been
outside our observations so far. Another challenge is the missing gap between
quantum physics and gravity.
The usual training program of physics and
astronomy at the Dutch universities is founded on the roots of a long tradition
in physics, which has laid the foundation for the technology for today's
society. The topics in a typical university training program refer to the
"physics of the past". Therefore, it is very appropriate that the
Studievereniging Marie Curie organizes a symposium, focussing on "Tomorrow's
Physics". This symposium brings together excellent speakers dealing with
exciting new topics in physics which will be the challenging research topics
for today's physics students. Therefore, this symposium is an excellent
opportunity for students to learn about new developments and to become
familiar with future research topics.
